Privacy Policy¶

Compute Central is a documentation site run by Sameer Alam. This page explains what is collected when you read it, who else receives that data, and how to change your choices.
The short version¶
- You can read every page without giving any personal information.
- There are no accounts, sign-ups, comment forms, or newsletters.
- Analytics cookies are off until you accept them.
- Advertising is served by Google, which may set its own cookies.
What is collected¶
Nothing you type¶
The site has no login, no contact form, and no newsletter. There is nothing here that asks for your name, email address, or any other personal detail.
Hosting logs¶
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub receives technical information — your IP address, browser, and the page requested — in order to serve the page and protect the service. That processing is covered by GitHub's Privacy Statement.
Analytics, only if you accept¶
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics (property G-TBKH2M5SJ3) records which pages are read, roughly where in the world readers are, and whether people find what they came for. It is used to decide which guides to improve, nothing else.
Analytics is opt-in: the banner appears with analytics unchecked, and no analytics cookie is set unless you accept. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer.
Advertising¶
This site shows ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may set cookies or read existing ones to serve and measure ads, and — where permitted — to personalize what you see.
- Google's use of advertising cookies is described in How Google uses information from sites that use our services.
- You can turn off personalized advertising in Google Ad Settings.
- If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, Google shows its own consent message before personalized ads are served. Choosing "Do not consent" means ads are still shown, but they are not personalized.

Your browser can block or delete any of these. Nothing on the site breaks if you do.
What is never done here¶
- No selling or sharing of data with anyone beyond the services named above.
- No tracking pixels from social networks.
- No fingerprinting, session recording, or heatmap tools.
- No attempt to identify individual readers.

Pages here link to documentation, vendor sites, and articles elsewhere. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and this policy doesn't cover them.
Children¶
This site is written for working engineers and is not directed at children under 13.
Your choices¶
- Change your cookie choice: use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page.
- Opt out of Google Analytics everywhere: install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
- Control ad personalization: Google Ad Settings.
- Ask a question, or ask for data to be removed: contact details are below. Since no personal data is stored directly by this site, most requests are about Google's data rather than mine, and Google's own controls are the fastest route.
Changes to this policy¶
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted on this page rather than applied silently.
